One of the most inconvenient parts of traveling is having to go through airport security. If you are a frequent traveler, having to take your shoes off in safety is one of the most uncomfortable things in the entire travel process. If we add to this the long lines of security and the lines to go through customs when arriving from a foreign country, we can see where some of the things we most despise traveling are. Global Entry has many advantages that a frequent traveler should seriously consider:
Say Goodbye to the Rows
When you’re in a hurry because you arrived late at the airport, finding a kilometer row is no comfort. If you are bothered by long lines to go through security, it is time to celebrate. With Global Entry you have a minimum rank (if any) when you have to go through customs to return from a foreign country.
TSA-PreCheck Included
The advantages of Global Entry are not limited to trips abroad as it includes all the same advantages that the TSA-PreCheck has. This means that you have a separate row to enter security that is often empty. Now the best part: you don’t have to take off your shoes, leash (unless you have a metal plate) or jacket to go through security. You also don’t have to take your “laptop” from where it is stored.
Don’t worry about the Real ID
If you have not renewed your license with the “Real ID” yet, you will not be able to travel outside of Puerto Rico since your license will not be enough from October 1, 2020. But if you have Global Entry you do not need Real ID since Global Entry is a federal ID just as valid as a license with Real ID and it lasts for 5 years.
What do you need to do to get your Global Entry ID?
Go to the Homeland Security page and fill out the application. The cost to enter the program is $ 100 and remains valid for 5 years, but it may cost you nothing. There are a variety of credit cards that grant you a credit for the same amount that the Global Entry costs. Click here for a list of the cards that cover your cost. Just remember to pay with the credit card that gives you the benefit.
After you fill out the application, they will send you a rejection or approval email. When you receive the email you are likely to receive a pre-approval, but you still have to go through an interview. Currently it could be months before they set an appointment for an interview. But if you are in a hurry you can go to an interview center at one of the airports on this page. Remember to take your passport, license and an electric power or aqueduct bill with you as proof of residence. In the interview they will take your fingerprints.
Who does not Qualify for Global Entry?
People who lie in the application
People who have been convicted of any federal or state offense, including driving while intoxicated.
People under federal or state investigation
Persons considered as high-risk travelers by Homeland Security
The benefits of obtaining Global Entry far outweigh the cost of entering the program, dare and apply today.
